Route

Two alternative routes have been chosen. One to Huarmey on the Pacific Ocean, and the other to Casma, also on the coast slightly northward. We included a turn point at Huascaran Basecamp, or another crossing from The Cordillera Negra to The Blanca, adding for to the distance on the Casma Route.  We have been and are doing some major research reconaissance and considering a shorter route from Alpamayo Basecamp, across to the Cordillera Negra south, across to Vallenraju Peak in Blanca, over Huaraz, over town of Coris in Corddillera Negra, 260km or so the first race year in 2012, and down to the Pacific cean via town of Huarmey. An alternative route goes to Casma on the Pacific coast as well. Thanks to Heinrich Berg, we plotted two great routes on Google earth.

We have flown several portions already in the Cordillera Negra. Furthermore several pilots have flown distances of up to 142km in one day. Many pilots believe that on good days both routes are doable in two days by good XC pilots. We leave a five day window to keep things safe. If pilots have to land , and hike portions, well that is part of the plan for XANDES. We been diligent in making sure safety comes first and all GPS points are near road access for chase vehicles.
