HUARAZ PERU June 15th – July 15th
Huaraz Peru , dubbed as the ” heart of the Andes ” is probably the most under promoted, yet most beautiful regions of Peru. Huaraz is situated 250km north east of Lima or an eight hour bus ride from Lima, the capital . It is a medium sized city of 100,000 flanked by the Cordillera Negra ( Or Black Range ) on the west side of the valley with elevations reaching 5000 meters. But it is the east side of the valley which really takes your breath away. There are 14 , 6000 meter peaks lined up in their full splendor and gleaming with permanent icefields and glaciers as one drives up the valley to Caraz . Huaraz is an adventure paradise with best dry or sunny season to visit from May through August every year. Huaraz is Peters favorite hang out in the Andes. His life was saved there in a ski mountaineering accident in 1979 and since he deems it as one of the most ” special spots in his heart ”
